The world produces 381 million tonnes in plastic waste per year – this is set to double by 2034. 50% of this is single-use plastic & only 9% has ever been recycled.

The problem isn't exclusive to plastic either. It’s estimated that over 600,000 tonnes of fishing equipment is dumped into the sea every year, with nylon fishing nets comprising a large part of this total. By using recycled materials, we help clean our oceans, recycle that waste, and cut out the need for raw materials like crude oil, which are traditionally used in the production of nylon.

If we can use this waste, instead of virgin materials, to create products that we are already using, then why don't we? Well we do, but finding them is a pain. Squareco stock innovative products, from leading and independent brands, so you can have confidence in the sportswear you own.

All of the items we stock are made from at least 50% recycled materials. These materials vary brand by brand, but our main goal is to stock items which have been made using materials which would have otherwise been sent to landfill, or our oceans. We wanted to make sure the way we distribute items matches our passion for a greener sports industry. That's why all our packaging is made from starch (from field corn) and fully compostable. Many brands have scrapped plastic packaging, which is great, however a lot of biodegradable alternatives leave behind residue which still harm our environment. Plastics which takes 6 months to break down are a very small step in the right direction, however we wanted our packaging to do more than 'break down'. Our mailing bags and labels are ideal for disposal in your kitchen or garden waste, and will be used to enrich plant growth in just 12 weeks. You can also dispose of our packaging in your own compost heap, should you have one.
